Whether this is your first or tenth paver project, hardscape installation can get a little messy, but in the end it's always worth it. The process begins by removing the top layer and excavating down. The depth of the excavation will vary depending on the type of project. After that, a compacted base layer of aggregate is installed, followed by a layer of bedding sand. Then finally, the hardscapes are placed on top with the final step of joint material.

Patio pavers are set on a solid foundation made up of compacted gravel, typically 4 to 6 inches thick for patios and thicker for driveways. The exact depth depends on the soil conditions and how the space will be used. This base is carefully leveled and tightly compacted to create a stable surface, helping prevent the pavers from shifting or settling over time. We are set apart by pouring a concrete bond beam around the perimeter base of our installations this will guarantee a secure and stable install.

After the base is placed, a layer of sand is added and carefully leveled. This bedding sand is essential for creating a smooth, even surface and helps the pavers lock together properly. It should be applied evenly at a depth of about 1 inch across the entire base.

Once the pavers are set on the leveled sand, polymeric sand is swept into the joints between them. This type of sand helps lock the pavers together, while also preventing weeds and debris from getting in between and overall helps reduce maintenance. Specifically designed for both narrow and wide joints in pavers, slabs, or natural stone, polymeric sand is more durable than regular sand and hardens similar to a grout. It becomes flexible when wet and hardens as it dries, allowing it to better withstand movement in the ground.

For added protection, a sealant can be applied to your pavers once everything is completely dry. Using a product like Surebond sealer, a protective layer is sprayed over the surface to enhance the natural color of the stones while guarding against stains and discoloration. This also helps reduce long-term maintenance and keeps your pavers looking their best.
